Dark Skies 2020, with Rewilding Adventure

Star trails about Dalby Forest Credit Classlane Media_NYMNP

Although the days are short, and darkness comes earlier, Rewilding Adventure are looking forward to Winter as there is a beauty to be appreciated in the darkness of the skies. Our Dark Skies activities will be happening between Sunday 12th January and Wednesday 22nd April 2020- with the North York Moors National Park’s Dark Skies Festival smack bang in middle- happening between 14th February and 1st March.

What’s Happening?

We have 15 Dark Skies: Stargazing events planned, and 5 Moon Rise Viewing events. We’re at the whim of the Earth’s rotation, the moon’s orbit and the hours or sunset- making sure we have darkness, a moon rise or no moon means that we only have a few opportunities to get the best conditions! WE have planned them so there is a wide geographic spread- so hopefully there’s an event near to you!

Proud to hold the Dark Skies Friendly status form the North York Moors National Park!
  • Dark Skies: Stargazing: as the moon orbits the Earth it wanes from a full moon down to a New Moon– for one night(or day) each month there is no moon apart from a tiny sliver; it’s the nights that close to the New Moon that offer a truly dark sky- with typically just 0%-3% light- or 100% darkness! Our events are planned so we can access an area that is very little light pollution and to take place on the night of new moon- so we have the best chance of seeing the stars, galaxies, meteors and satellites that decorate the skies above us.
  • Moon Rise Viewing: we aren’t gong to give the secret away as to what we look for when planning these events- but we will be at a vantage point where we can see the horizon when the moon rises!

When’s this happening?

Not going to lie- although I’ve wanted to add biographies to the website for a while to give that human face- rather than a corporate, logo-presenting appearance- to actually sit down and write about yourself is a little daunting!
